Join the Bethel YPD Walk for Hunger team

The Young Peoples Division of the Christina R Gray Missionary Society have two missionary projects that we would like our Bethel family to assist us in.

First if you have any old eyeglasses that are not being used, there will be a box in the foyer that you can place them in at Bethel.

Secondly, on Sunday, May 2 , 2010 the YPDers will be doing the Walk for Hunger. Please log on to the Walk for Hunger website and make a donation to our group Bethel YPD.

You can be also join the team as a walker or as a volunteer. You can walk as much or as little as you feel is appropriate for you and your family.

Any questions, contact Bethel's YPD co-director Teresa Lammey-Reid at bethelbosypd [at] gmail [dot] com

The Lord's Prayer: Matthew 6

On Sunday, April 18, our children shared how praying is our way of "talking to God" and how He ALWAYS listens. Brother Clayton Samuels read The Lord's Prayer by Tim Ladwig, which told the story of a father and daughter who go to help an elderly neighbor. The words "On earth as it is in heaven" find the parent and child patching and painting the neighbor's fence, mowing and raking the lawn. The pair stop to have lunch on the porch stoop ("Give us today our daily bread"), and they feed the leftovers to the pigeons. The father refuses payment ("Forgive us our debts"), and the daughter returns a gold medallion she's found in the grass ("and lead us not into temptation") to the neighbor who lost it. The neighbor, in turn, clasps a necklace with the medallion around the girl's neck.

We discussed each line of the prayer so that the children will not just be able to recite the prayer, but actually understand what they're asking.

After rehearsing "Holy, Holy, Holy" (also posted on the blog), which the children will sing next week, parents were invited in to help their little ones create the Lord's Prayer angels.

Special thanks to our newest Children's Worship volunteer Phanenca Babio who was on hand and was especially great at helping our nearly 20 little ones stay on task.

The Kids are singing this next Sunday, April 25th!

And here is the video with the song they are singing... Holy Holy Holy.

They will only be singing the first verse repeated a few times, so only have them go over about the first minute of the video.

If you have the rehearsal CD, the correct version for them to practice with is track 2.

Lyrics:
Holy Holy Holy
Lord God Almighty
Early in the Morning our song shall rise to Thee
Holy Holy Holy
Merciful and Mighty
God in three persons
Blessed Trinity
repeated 3x

I look forward to hearing them sing!

YPD Sunday (April 11) - Easter Review

Rev John Kyner read an Easter story and then the kids opened plastic eggs with symbols from the story, demonstrating what they remembered about it. Example,

"Mine has a rock in it."
-- What did a rock have to do with the story?
"There was a big stone that they rolled away, then saw Jesus wasn't in there."

For the King's Kidz rehearsal, they learned Holy, Holy, Holy (which they will sing on Sunday, April 25, for Youth Impact Sunday).

And during activity time, the children talked about caring for others and caring for our church, and drew pictures to be decorate the walls of Bethel.

Some upcoming YPP dates:

Annual Conference May 15

Happy Resurrection Sunday

Sunday, March 21
Heard a Bible story read by Pastor Gloria about The True King entering into Jerusalem on a donkey with the road softened with palms.
Kids made palms, and adorned them with the word Hosanna.
They received a copy of the Easter Story book to take home to read (the same stories that are in the Beginner's Bible.)

Sunday, March 28
Heard two stories about the death and the resurrection of Jesus, read by Rev Al Tyson and Sis Joyce Tyson
Colored Easter greeting cards for residents of nursing homes.
Kids received take home packs with a make-you-own magnetic Easter picture frame and a CD with songs they've learned (or are going to learn) for the King's Kidz choir.

This Sunday, April 3, the King's Kidz choir will minister to the congregation in song, singing We Fall Down.

They will also sing again on Sunday, April 25, for Youth Impact Sunday.
