Parent Covenant

Children’s and Youth Ministry

Direct your children onto the right path,
and when they are older, they will not leave it.
(Proverbs 22:6, NLT)

In entering into this covenant (a solemn agreement, between me, the Youth/Children’s Ministries, and God), I recognize that I am an integral part of this ministry and of the Bethel AME Church, Boston, community. Each of us in this body of Christ is charged to:

  • Regularly reach up to God, into the fellowship and out to the world.
  • Make the 7 Pillars of the Church (prayer, study, sacrament, fellowship, giving, worship, and evangelism/discipleship) a part of our daily lives
  • Maintain a safe, supportive environment for all children and adults at Bethel

As a parent or guardian who brings a child to church, I am one of the most influential factors in the child’s spiritual growth. To nurture my child’s relationship with God and the body of Christ, I will:

  1. Lead by my own example and encourage older youth to set an example for younger ones
  2. Actively participate in various church activities
  3. Support my child’s regular church attendance
  4. Provide spiritual education at home (through prayer, discussions, review of church sermons and lessons, Christian music, and Bible reading and study)
  5. Encourage practice and preparation for Youth Impact Sundays
  6. Ensure that my child is supervised by an adult at all times while on Bethel property
  7. Send my child to church with an offering, giving to the best of his or her current ability
  8. Practice good stewardship by caring for church property, including furniture, toys, books, etc. and teaching my child to do the same
  9. Pray regularly, along with my children, for all of the youth and youth related ministries at Bethel
  10. Eagerly give volunteer service to the ministries that benefit my family
  11. Remember that youth activities at Bethel are ministry and not childcare service
  12. Support and pray, along with my children, for the adult volunteers who staff youth related ministries at Bethel
