Children’s and Youth Ministry
Direct your children onto the right path,
and when they are older, they will not leave it.
(Proverbs 22:6, NLT)
In entering into this covenant (a solemn agreement, between me, the Youth/Children’s Ministries, and God), I recognize that I am an integral part of this ministry and of the Bethel AME Church, Boston, community. Each of us in this body of Christ is charged to:
- Regularly reach up to God, into the fellowship and out to the world.
- Make the 7 Pillars of the Church (prayer, study, sacrament, fellowship, giving, worship, and evangelism/discipleship) a part of our daily lives
- Maintain a safe, supportive environment for all children and adults at Bethel
As a parent or guardian who brings a child to church, I am one of the most influential factors in the child’s spiritual growth. To nurture my child’s relationship with God and the body of Christ, I will:
- Lead by my own example and encourage older youth to set an example for younger ones
- Actively participate in various church activities
- Support my child’s regular church attendance
- Provide spiritual education at home (through prayer, discussions, review of church sermons and lessons, Christian music, and Bible reading and study)
- Encourage practice and preparation for Youth Impact Sundays
- Ensure that my child is supervised by an adult at all times while on Bethel property
- Send my child to church with an offering, giving to the best of his or her current ability
- Practice good stewardship by caring for church property, including furniture, toys, books, etc. and teaching my child to do the same
- Pray regularly, along with my children, for all of the youth and youth related ministries at Bethel
- Eagerly give volunteer service to the ministries that benefit my family
- Remember that youth activities at Bethel are ministry and not childcare service
- Support and pray, along with my children, for the adult volunteers who staff youth related ministries at Bethel
