NUTRITION AT BETHEL
As lent comes to a close it's important that we reflect. In March we spoke about the fruit of the spirit. As a church community we often speak about nurturing the spirit. It is not only important that we nurture the spirit, but that we also nurture the body. In the 40 days of lent, we usually focus on giving up something of the body....so we can nurture the spirit. The spirit AND body are important. In the way that we teach our children to cultivate the spirit, is important that we teach them to care for their bodies. As we approach the Easter season let's start thinking about ways in which we can nurture the body.
Let's start with FRUIT....
It's delicious and nutritious. Fresh FRUIT can be a great snack. Fruit is stocked with key nutrients like water, fiber and various micronutrints Vitamins A-K, minerals and phytochemicals which have antioxidant properties.
It's important to start healthy eating early. People tend to carry their eating habits with them throughout life. So get your child started with a healthy eating lifestyle by starting with FRUIT.
Tips-How to encourage young children to snack with FRUIT:
Model it- children model their parents. Even when you think their not looking - they are! So instead of reaching for that bag of potato chips before dinner, grab a piece of FRUIT. They're likely to catch on.
FRUIT of the month
Bananas- Rich in fiber and potassium bananas are a great fruit. Available year round. Bananas are a great snack FRUIT. They can also be added to any fresh fruit smoothie to provide a creamier texture. This month, when your craving a snack try grabbing a banana.
