Jesus and the Children: February 21

We started the week with 16 children in our Children's Worship Service!

The lesson for the morning was Jesus and the Children, taken from Matthew 19.

The Bible story, read from The Beginners Bible, dealt with the disciples sending the children away but Jesus receiving and blessing them. Our children learned that Jesus is never too busy for them. They discussed ways in which God blesses each of them. At the top of the list: parents, food, clothes and of course TOYS!

During activity time, we made fold out cards. The children colored, dressed and made faces on a template of children holding hands. This chain of children was folded like an accordion and glued into card stock making a fold out card. On the cover, the children (with adult help) wrote "Jesus Loves the Little Children and he loves _____________ (their name).

We closed in prayer and had time to read a story. We read and discussed The Lord's Prayer picture book. We identified the images, the children repeated the lines of the prayer and we discussed what certain lines meant. We especially focused on two: gives us this day our daily bread and deliver us from evil. We talked about what those two lines look like in our daily lives.

We dismissed to the sanctuary where we practiced the two songs we will perform next week: Father of Lights and This Little Light of Mine.
